Musculoskeletal (MSK) pain is very common within the general population. The vast majority of symptoms are as a result of a muscle strain, tendon degeneration, a ligament injury or arthritis.
In younger patients symptoms can also be related to the age and stage of a child's development. Many MSK conditions can be successfully treated with MSK Podiatry following a biomechanical assessment and relevant examination of the leg and foot structures.
Treatment can include footwear advice and modification, manipulation, mobilisation, exercise programmes, strapping and functional foot orthoses (insoles). With younger patients advice and reassurance may be all that is needed.
Where necessary a multidisciplinary approach may be required resulting in a referral to a physiotherapist, osteopath, chiropractor, paediatrician, rheumatologist or orthopaedic consultant.
